This is common when carb cleaner is used to clean the carb
and is sprayed on the slide
the carb cleaner eats away at the coating on the slide and causes it not to idle down
as the slide can be stuck slightly open without the lubricating coating.
May or may not be the problem, just my .2 cents.

new slide b/c you never know what the other carb might need who knows the used carb might need cleaning in a month or so then you will be going through the same problem if it was me just use your carb and get a new slide and be done with the problem. no sence of spending more than you need to for something like racing that allready takes alot of money away from you

do you by chance have  a  cut  carb spring to make  it  easier to push the throttle?

one of my yfz's did the  same  thing i put a  stock  spring back in and cleaned the linkage off problem solved...sometimes  soem varnish will build up both on the slide and  throat of the carb  from oxidation and old gas residue  you need to take  some  fine  sandpaper rough both  up to break the glaze and cleaned it off with wd 40 not carb cleaner

before you do any of that check your cable out...and yoru throttle housing

I would do what QUADRIDERYFZ reccommended, clean carb again, after you sand any and all groves and edges, make sure cable is seated properly, when you brap the gas the spring tention will seat needle, if after that i doesn't fix than prob not your slide , make sure idle , and air screw are set properly with weather also. 2.5 turns out air screw good starting point. cold temp, higher main, 50 pilot,or 48, worked well for me. said quad was modded so 172+ main , just guessing without looking. check thumb throttle for  rubbing under the cover,or ant dirt or obstructions. with clean air filter too, dried and oiled. If starts good , no overly loud top end ticks prob nothing to do with valve adjust. also check lenth of cable vs. stock never know have had 1/4 " shorter one time measure sleeve not act cable as that tention can be adjusted. just my 2 cents
