with the exchange rate where its at it would be cheap to buy a bike across the border and bring it back. Just wondering if anybody has done this, and if you had any taxes ect to pay when youbrought it in.

I've sold to residents of canada.... There is an inspection process at the border and often suggested to make an appointment otherwise be prepared customs to hold it for a few (not always the case, but has happened) an import tax is applied, as well as a sales tax.
Again that's the formality from US> canada but I can imagine the process would be much different in the reverse order. Call customs they have been helpful with me whenever crossing the border with a machine. (Their used bikes are significantly more expensive + currency exchange rate)

even with the sales tax, it comes out to be about the same as buying one hereout of state and not paying sales tax. I was told by the dealer I would get that tax money back since im not a canadian resident. Although im sure then i'd have to end up paying customs fees ect. Probably not worth the hassle to save a few hundred bucks. It would be about 6400 for a new kx450 there though if you got the tax back and didnt have to pay NYS tax.
