Blazer Question

removing cables is a ol school way of testing altenators, what year do you have?
some of the new ones need juice to charge the altenator to produce the voltage you need,
chances are you have something drawing the battery down like the radio or such.

gm's are know for the diode trio in the altenator going bad and draining the battery, would take altenator to a parts store that can check it, you could still have a bad one

ok so  the truck wont hold a charge, new battery and alternator. wont start unless jumped. when you jump it if u take off the positive jumper cable after its started it dies.

it doesnt fire right up always either. some times it will run for a few then die. any ideas?

removing the jumper cables is? we replaced the battery, then it wasnt holding a charge so we figured alternator. then we replaced both again. we got a brand new alternator and battery the battery isnt completly dead but it wont turn the truck over. could it be a crank sensor? it seems like something stupid but i cant figure it out

Something is drawling on the battery when it's off. Charge the battery fully and un hook the negative cable let it sit over night and then hook the cable back up and see if it starts, and when it's running take a volt letter and see how many bolts you have should be in the area of 13.4 then rev it should go up, but if it's a new alternator that shouldn't be a problem I think you just have something drawing the battery. You can also test that by doing a voltage drop test while the truck is off. Never owned or worked on a blazer but am a motorcycle tech and it's a 12 volt system so the same thing. The running for a few then dying kinda depends on what you mean by a few, if the battery
Is to dead it will shut the truck off but only if it's not being chaged. I'd start with easy stuff make sure your cables are tight and in good shape check the resistance in the cables make sure you have a good ground, might be that simple.

What year is the Blazer? My 98 suburban will die if the positive cable is removed also. There are 2 wire @ the terminal, 1 is the heavy gauge wire to the starter, and the other(small) feeds the computer. If you can keep them both touching it remains running, but pull the "feed" power from the computer and of course it stops running. Make 100% sure it not something small like a corroded cable end or something.

crank sensor would be a timing issue

it would run like crap and throw a code up on your dash,

anybody you know have a battery tester or altenator tester? i would bring both down to parts america, they have a bench tester that would work,

just because its a new (rebuilt) altenator, doesnt mean its working properly, im still thinking you have a voltage draw somewhere to kill battery

and if its not the altenator, or battery, hes going to need to buy alot of pizza and beer to figure out where the draw is coming from
