400ex is a good start... cheaper than a 450, handle great,a little under powered compaired to 450, but when you ride it at 100% then do a big bore or sell and get a 450. if you were just steping over a bike people wouldn't tell you to get a 450 or 500cc 2 stroke. ride Smart, have Fun, you can always move up to a 450, and sell the 400ex for close to what you are paying. (people still like them because they are trail friendly also.) alot of people just starting go as big as possible get hurt, then sell the quad and get out of racing them. It's just for fun....... good luck

im 16, ive been racing for 12 years. I am currently running the AM class on a YFZ 450. i really like the 400 hondas but they really just dont have the power without sticking a ton of money into them. if you have any experience at all id say a 450 is your best bet.
